Researched viability and production of the regional 36-page tabloid newspaper, which was designed to promote natural resources management in the Mid-North Yorke Peninsula region. Subsequently developed, rolled out, managed and edited the publication. Evaluation indicated favourable readership response and raised awareness of NRM issues.

A substantial book and accompanying digital, interactive display map which provided snapshots of nearly 100 NRM projects in the Northern and Yorke region of South Australia. Researched NRM projects for write-up, together with digital map technicalities. The products were toured across the region during 2011-12, engaging community members, farmers and school children in regional NRM awareness.

I conceived, researched and developed this $2,609,425 television series partnership proposal to promote awareness of natural resources management and key providers in South Australia. Researched content, partners, approach, logistics and funding. The project concept was deferred due to departmental restructuring.

Interactive children’s board game designed to teach young people about natural resource management. I researched content, feasibility, audiences, technology and distribution options. The disc was distributed to all schools throughout the Mid North and Yorke Peninsula regions of South Australia, and was adapted for use by interstate catchment boards.

Communications Plan 2006/07 – 2007/08

Research for this significant regional communications strategy was based on a literature review, staff interviews and site visits. The strategy included detailed budgeting and actions for the implementation of an inaugural, two-year communications program, implemented across multiple offices in the Northern and Yorke region. I was responsible for rolling out branding, publications, media, events, consultation, policies, training and internal communications in areas of soils, biodiversity, water, pest control and marine and coastal management.

St Kilda Tramway Museum marketing review and sponsorship proposal

This marketing review and $100,000 sponsorship proposal considered options for boosting the economic viability of the St Kilda Tram Museum. It was supported by Salisbury Council and contributed to the subsequent long-term continuity of the museum. Research was based on a SWOT analysis, environmental scan of Australian train and tram museums, and literature review.

I conducted interviews and a literature review as a basis for co-writing this sponsorship naming proposal for a $425,000 Festival of the North. The proposal was produced in conjunction with Salisbury and Playford Councils on behalf of Festival of the North’s management partnership.

Out of the Ordinary television series
TAV Production for the Local Government Association of South Australia:
Researcher and scriptwriter

Primary researcher (interviews, site visits and literature review) and scriptwriter for a pilot six-part, 30-minute Channel 9 television series which featured 40 stories of human and community endeavour from Local Government regions across the State. Managed by Salisbury Council and presented by Rob Kelvin, the series won its timeslot and recorded a total audience of more than half a million viewers. The series ran for six subsequent seasons and won an Outstanding Innovation in Regional Development Award from Department of Trade and Regional Services.

Concept creator, researcher and writer of a proposal for an Australian-first, local government-funded television series about local communities and Councils in South Australia. I researched potential content, players, approach and funding options. The proposal was driven by Salisbury Council on behalf of the Local Government Association of SA, and received initial support for an $840,000 pilot series subsequently produced by Tav Productions and broadcast on Channel 9.

Developed a city marketing research report and concept proposals for Salisbury Council on the basis of research including site visits, staff, business and community interviews, a literature review and SWOT analysis. Several projects were adapted and implemented from the proposal, including a television series and a photographic exhibition.

Researched viability and production of an educational resource book about Marion Council. The book was written and illustrated by local school students under the supervision of primary school teacher, Heather Papagiannis. I project managed and edited the book. Researched viability and production of this regional 44-page, full-colour quarterly civic magazine, and subsequently developed, rolled out, managed and edited the publication. Distribution to 50,000 local residences, businesses, recreational bodies and educational organisations. The magazine was the first local government-funded project of its type in Australia and was subsequently emulated by local and interstate councils. Evaluation indicated favourable readership response and improved awareness of council and community issues.

The publication was designed to augment local council and community initiatives among Council residents. I subsequently developed, rolled out, managed and edited the publication. Evaluation indicated favourable readership response and raised awareness of council and community issues. The publication won various Local Government printing and design awards.

This 24-page, community participatory tabloid newspaper was launched in a low socio-economic region of Adelaide to build community expression and pride. I researched community participatory methodologies and taught theory and practice of journalism and newspaper production to a group of local community members. The paper was considered a successful participatory project by participants and the (then) SA Family and Community Services.

This book about non-traditional career opportunities for young women was produced an as educational resource for female secondary students. I conducted literature reviews and interviews as a basis for writing the book on behalf of the (then) Tertiary Education Authority of South Australia. It was launched by Mary Beasley, the (then) Commissioner for Equal Opportunity, and placed in school and civic libraries throughout South Australia.
